Students from FdA media practice at Yeovil College  filmed part of their short film at the Old School Room, West Coker. We look forward to seeing the end results.

The gallery will be officially opened at 3pm by internationally acclaimed sculptor Peter Randall-Page and the Chairman of East Devon District Council.

This will be your chance to preview our opening exhibition ‘Earthscapes’ which continues until Saturday 10 July.

From just north of Shore Avenue on the East coast of the Portsmouth Peninsular, Milton Pier stretches across the expansive coastal open space of Milton Common for half a mile.

The Pier is not a continuous solid structure, but a corridor of creative interventions that evoke the idea of the Milton Common as land re-claimed from the sea. The idea of water flowing in the place where we then stood brought back memories for some of houseboats and cockling in the mud and revealed a history hidden below Portsmouths largest natural grassland area.

The Pier provides a vehicle for the creation of a series of sculptural interventions over the whole site. The trail, no more than three metres wide, stretches across the common, over wild grass, brambles, undulations, paths and ponds.

Platforms and posts made from reclaimed greenheart timber sea defences rise out of the ground, creating places to meet or for solitary contemplation, observation and exploration, a place to rest or for active physical play. The objects are connected by wild flowers that have been planted to enhance the concept of the corridor of interventions that form the pier.

Notions of landscapes changing through human intervention is at the forefront of contemporary environmental study and this work is intended not only to provide a fun and active place for young people but a place for reflection and contemplation.

We are very pleased to have won the 5 way pitch for the re branding of the Thelma Hulbert Gallery. The newly refurbished gallery in East Devon is due to open in May 2010.

Simon has been appointed as lead artist to work on his third Play Path Finder commission for Portsmouth City Council at Tamworth Field near Milton Common. Work will commence Jan 2010.

Entry Level artwork is now complete and is due to be launched with the new front of house and newly landscaped Somerset Square end of November early December.

Company owner Neil McMakin required a new platform to operate from. Fire & Ice worked with him for the name generation and new look and feel. Cadre Consulting was the choosen name and the new logo has been applied to stationery and the website is currently in progress. www.cadreconsulting.co.uk

We have been working with the charity and photographer Angus Deuchar to produce the 2010 calendar.

“We hope to produce a calendar every year, featuring different theatre departments. It seemed natural to start with the first people you meet walking into the theatre, the stage door-keepers. Box office next year?”

We are very excited as we have keys to our new premises. We will be working with local architects Boon Brown for the initial stages.
